reFX Audio Software LLC

reFX Audio Software, Inc.

reFX Audio Software Inc. has filed numerous federal copyright infringement lawsuits, also known as the reFX Nexus lawsuit, alleging illegal copying of its software for music "sampling."  Like other BitTorrent peer-to-peer ("P2P") file-sharing cases, reFX Audio Software, Inc. accuses defendants of copyright infringement by using software and the internet to obtain their product without paying the appropriate license fee.

March 2014 update:

A recent decision by Northern District of Illinois federal Judge Chang has resulted in the severing of defendants in four cases: 13-cv-1790, 13-cv-1793, 13-cv-3524, and 13-cv-7494. The opinion is to be lauded for its effort to think critically about the BitTorrent swarm allegations, and to be noted for the judge's conclusion that the joining of these defendants is not proper.

The result of this "severing" decision is likely to result in either of the following scenarios:

1) Many defendants will now be individually named and served, or

2) The IP data has been purged due to the time delay and no more defendants can be identified and served
